John bridges, owner and engineer of Adelaide’s Wombat Studios has 30 years’ extensive experience in all facets of audio production. Working first as an engineer for Channel 9 Studios Adelaide for 15 years, he opened Wombat Studios in 1998.
John has worked on location sound, outside broadcasts, live telecasts, music composition and audio post production.
When asked what drew him to “The Ride”, John explains, “Being an ex-motorcyclist who’s almost come off a few times - what motorcyclist hasn’t?! - I really felt for these guys. After mixing the promo for the film I wanted to see the whole film and see the story unfold. The line at the end of the promo “I didn’t know the outback was wheelchair accessible” makes me laugh every time.”
John has been involved in far too many TV productions to count over the years; some of the best-known known programmes he’s worked on include Here’s Humphrey, Postcards and Adelaide Today. The many documentaries include, Loveable Rogues, 20th Century Aboriginal, and Tracking Great White Sharks. John has produced countless ads for radio among his many clients are Foodland, Festival Theatre, Police Credit Union and the Variety Club.
John has also taught his craft to a multitude of students through his work with TAFE and overseas in Vietnam.
John’s spare time is spent with his wife enjoying the country life in the Adelaide hills. A perfect afternoon is sitting in the autumn sun in the back paddock with a glass of red, watching the dog chase the chickens.
