Anton, 41, is adventurous, a bit of a rebel, and something of a gypsy at heart
Anton had his crash when he was 17 years old. He let his unlicensed 15-year-old girlfriend drive - he thought he might get lucky. He didn’t. She flipped the car on a dirt road and both life, and his aspirations of becoming a pro golfer were lost.
Immediately after the crash, Anton lived a wild life, taking drugs, picking up women, writing himself off and hoping to avoid waking up to his paraplegic life. A nomadic bohemian type, he spent years travelling as a roadie with Australian band The Waifs. A settled suburban life is a far cry from Anton’s wild past.
For Anton, the ride is something of a ‘last hurrah’. Over several months he faces some massive life changes: halfway through the trip he will marry his partner Kate at Uluru, and two months after he arrives home there’s another big development in store...
Can Anton let go of his old ways and embrace his life for what it is now, not for what it was, or could have been?
